About Dr Oosthuizen
Dr Christiaan Rudolf Oosthuizen has been an orthopaedic surgeon in private practice for more than 35 years. His work focuses on partial knee replacement, hip replacement and the treatment of long-standing back problems.
Since opening his practice in 1990, he has stayed committed to care that is guided by evidence and tailored to each patient. He believes good treatment starts with an honest diagnosis and a plan you understand.
Alongside his practice, Dr Oosthuizen teaches and does research on knee surgery. He is an Honorary Lecturer in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Training & qualifications
Dr Oosthuizen finished school in 1973, qualified as a doctor at the University of Stellenbosch in 1979 and became a specialist orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Pretoria in 1989. He started his own practice the following year.
In 2022 the University of the Witwatersrand awarded him a PhD for his research into how knee arthritis is graded and how partial and full knee replacements are chosen. His research continues to focus on choosing the right operation for the right patient.
What Dr Oosthuizen treats
