International joint registries (UK, Australia, Sweden) report 10-year implant survival of 92–95% for modern medial UKAs when performed in suitable patients by experienced surgeons. 15-year survival is typically 85–90%.
Patient satisfaction is consistently higher than for total knee replacement — over 90% of UKA patients describe their knee as 'forgotten' or 'normal-feeling' in daily life, compared to around 80% after TKR.
Outcomes are surgeon-volume sensitive: practices doing more than 30 UKAs a year reliably out-perform low-volume practices. Dr Oosthuizen has performed more than a thousand UKAs and published long-term outcome data on his own series.
