Yes if the arthritis is linked to a workplace injury or recognised occupational cause.
If your knee arthritis is the direct consequence of a workplace injury or qualifying occupational exposure, the Compensation Commissioner (COIDA) in South Africa covers diagnosis, surgery, hospitalisation and rehabilitation. The link must be documented and accepted by the Commissioner.
Practical steps: report the original injury, get clinical records that connect the arthritis to that injury, lodge a claim through your employer, and provide the medical reports the Commissioner requests. Our rooms can prepare the required reports.
If the claim is accepted, you are also entitled to compensation for temporary total disability while you are unable to work and, where appropriate, permanent disability if function does not fully recover.
