Do People Regret Having Partial Knee Replacement?
Regret is rare and almost always relates to expectations rather than the surgery itself.
Reported satisfaction after UKA is consistently above 90% in published series and registries — among the highest of any joint replacement. Regret is uncommon and, when it occurs, is usually linked to expectation: patients who expected a knee identical to age 25 can feel let down even when the knee functions excellently.
Genuine regret usually traces back to one of: poor patient selection (UKA done when a total was indicated), under-corrected alignment, an unrecognised second compartment problem, or inadequate rehabilitation.
These are reduced dramatically by careful pre-operative assessment (including KOGS grading), high-volume surgical experience and a structured rehabilitation programme — all of which are core to our practice.
